Synopsis
Verified Target is a high-octane action film. It tells the tale of a disillusioned hit woman who discovers the organization she works for is no longer a force for good. Her target has been falsely verified, she refuses to ‘take the shot’ and now becomes a target verified by the organization she once worked for.
This movie opens when a ‘man’ dressed as Jesus interrupts a church sermon and shoots the preacher in front of this congregation. We soon find out that ‘Jesus’ in fact a deadly female assassin, Blake (Dominika Walo), and the preacher was molesting children from his church. He was a ‘verified target’, a virus, a bad guy; and so marked for termination. Blake is part of a unique team of assassins that follows a strict code of ethics in the execution of their contracts. But things get murky when she is called in to do a ‘hit’ outside of the accepted protocols.
A high-profile case from a congresswoman (Maria Erwolter) wants to get rid of her ex-husband (Sebastian Hulk) because he has done bad things. But Blake discovers he is innocent. The target is NOT verified, and a bigger conspiracy is afoot. Blake refuses to complete the contract. Fearing the repercussions from Blake’s action, the ‘Organization’ (Martin Wuttke) marks Blake as a Verified Target and sends other assassins (including Boban Marjanovic) to kill Blake and terminate the “virus”.
This action film has been fabulously stylized by its director Milena Grujić creating a rich tapestry of interesting well motivated characters. Although set in present day, the film has a retro, almost ‘cold war’ grittiness to it.
